Treasure Valley
Heat cycling and UV breakdown through summer, wind creasing that never shows from the ground, hail events in Canyon County, and attic ventilation that was built to code minimum rather than to what the attic needs. Asphalt shingle dominates and ventilation quality decides how long it lasts.
McCall and Donnelly
Snow load on the structure, ice damming at the eaves, meltwater backing up under the courses, and freeze-thaw cycling that tears at everything. Metal usually wins, extended ice-and-water membrane is not optional, and where the snow lands when it sheds is a design decision made before installation.
